The château built by Louis XVIII and the exceptionally fine collection of wall paintings by Gervais adorning the municipal council chamber reflect the town’s rich past. Both of these listed attractions offer an insight into the life of the people of Saint-Ouen in the XIXth century. The luxury displayed by the nobility in the château and also the bourgeois society attracted by the racecourse stands in contrast to the intensive industrial labour of the town’s population. A determining period which laid the foundations of today’s town.
